Throughout August, Hawthorn Gallery hosted its Artists at Work Series, bringing local artisans into the gallery for live demonstrations and opportunities for visitors to meet the artists and learn more about their creative processes.
The series featured artists working in ceramics, jewelry, and pet portraiture, giving visitors an inside look at the techniques, inspiration, and craftsmanship behind their work.
August 1: Live Ceramics with Janet O’Malley
The series kicked off on August 1 with ceramic artist Janet O’Malley of JeLo Designs Pottery, who demonstrated the art of hand building.
Visitors had the opportunity to watch Janet shape clay into functional forms by hand while learning about the techniques, textures, and finishing processes that make each piece unique. Janet creates small-batch stoneware and porcelain pottery inspired by the beauty of everyday rituals.
Guests were able to meet Janet, ask questions about her creative process, and explore her thoughtfully crafted ceramics.
August 8: Jewelry Making with Avril Lynch
On August 8, local jewelry artist Avril Lynch of Wrack Line Jewelry demonstrated her creative process at the gallery.
Visitors watched as Avril transformed raw materials into beautifully handcrafted jewelry while sharing the techniques and inspiration behind her distinctive designs. The event offered jewelry enthusiasts, aspiring makers, and curious visitors a chance to connect with the artist and see her work come to life.
Her handcrafted jewelry was also available for purchase at the gallery.
August 15: Jewelry Making with Adam Zeloof
On August 15, jeweler Adam Zeloof demonstrated his craft and shared the creative process behind his one-of-a-kind jewelry.
A former mechanical engineer turned contemporary jeweler, Adam brings a unique perspective to his work, combining precision and artistry with inspiration from nature, music, and design. Visitors had the chance to meet Adam, ask questions, and see firsthand how engineering and craftsmanship can come together to create beautiful, wearable art.
Alix Fuerst
The series continued on August 22 with Alix Fuerst, who brought her talent for pet portraiture to Hawthorn Gallery.
Alix demonstrated her painting process while creating portraits inspired by beloved furry companions. Visitors were able to watch her work and learn more about the art of capturing the personality and character of a favorite pet.
