We announced the opening of Hawthorn Gallery with an exhibition featuring 5 renowned New England artists. Our opening reception weekend was held Friday, May 22nd and Saturday, May 23rd.

Sophie Lucas
Is a French Artist now based in Massachusetts. Her evocative works draw inspiration from the natural world. She captures both movement and mystery on her signature series which are currently part of the inaugural exhibit currently on view at the Hawthorn Gallery.

Diana Young
A graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, she has had a prolific career creating art in Maine and worldwide. Her paintings, characterized by their bright colors and askew perspective, evoke a sense of movement and whimsy. They must be “experienced,” not just viewed.

Adele Travisano
Adele’s artistic approach can be characterized as “fearless.” Her large canvases often feature subjects with bold colors and human forms. She was among the founding artists of the famous Vernon Street Studios in Somerville. Her works are displayed in several prominent locations in Medford, including City Hall, Shiloh Baptist Church, and Colleen’s.

Moira Lynch
Moira Lynch, an avid watercolorist, finds immense joy in the intricate interplay of pigments on paper and the unique effects that water imparts. The process of mixing paint, applying it to the paper, and patiently waiting for the final result is exhilarating for her. Her subjects range from rural and distinctive urban landscapes to captivating winter scenes, which she finds enchanting due to the mesmerizing winter lights. Her still lifes are a vibrant tapestry of color, infused with a touch of whimsy.
Her work has been widely exhibited locally in both group and solo exhibitions. She is a member of the Arlington Association of the Arts, The Watertown Arts Association, and The Cambridge Art Association. Over the years, she has been recognized for her outstanding work and has received eight awards in juried art shows. Recently, Moira was inducted as a Signature Member to the National Association of Women Artists.

Tree Heckler
Among the most intriguing artists you’ll ever encounter is Tree. She crafts imaginative storylines from found objects, embroidering them into her creative narratives. As her works take shape, their stories leap off the canvas of her intricate embroidery work. By slowly examining her art, viewers are captivated by the numerous layers of detail. Beyond her artistic talent, Tree’s legacy lies in her unwavering dedication to making the world a kinder place. Her former studio in Bangor, Maine, served as a sanctuary for many discarded youths. There, she taught them her craft while providing them with shelter from the harsh social and environmental challenges they faced. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Tree made it her mission to distribute her art, free of charge, to anyone who crossed her path. Her simple yet profound goal was to use art to create a more decent and compassionate world for its inhabitants.
